Welcome to The Big Time :: Spherion's New Career Blog

Welcome to The Big Time, Spherion's new career blog dedicated to helping you make it to the big time. You may ask, what do we mean by the "big time?" Well, it's something different for everyone. Looking back over my career, I see that my definition of 'making it to the big time' changed with every career opportunity. And that's why we've launched this blog. We'd like to help you succeed at whatever career goals you're trying to reach - whether you need to land your first job or transition into semi-retirement, if you're a consultant building an at-home business or a mid-level manager looking to make the leap into 'VP' land. We'll help you make it happen by giving you straightforward, real-world advice from Spherion experts that come from a variety of industries, professions and regions. They all have unique perspectives to share and have a pulse on today's labor market and know where the hot jobs are, how to get them and how to succeed in them. I'll also chime in from time to time and share my insight and experiences. Our experts have seen just about everything when it comes to the workplace, from how to deal with office romances to handling the toughest interview questions and salary discussions. So don't look at this as a place to post a resume or find a new job - it's not. Rather, this is an interactive forum for you to learn, share ideas and weigh in about topics you face every day on the job. We believe the best advice is often born from debate. We hope you disagree, challenge or help shape the discussions here. Like all great relationships, we look forward to growing together. See you soon in The Big Time. Sincerely, Roy Krause, President and CEO Spherion

One great thing about blogging- we can all be self-appointed ambassadors??and speak directly to the big cheese, so welcome!

Readers might be interested to know how you feel about the culture of transparency in the blogosphere- can your part of this blog be authentic and serve shareholder interests too?

CEO types aren't exactly known for logorrhea, but can you actually pony up otherwise not available insights from time to time?

Also you may want to submit this blog to http://www.recruitingfly.com

Looking forward to seeing how this evolves-

Hello Martin, Thanks for your comment about my blog post. You bring up a few interesting points. First of all, transparency is an important topic in the blogosphere. And in the context of career success and the job search, I won't be holding back from providing candid and relevant advice on a regular basis. As the CEO of a large recruiting company, I have a unique view of the job market and want to share that with career-minded individuals. However, when it comes to providing commentary that is relevant to shareholders, etc, our career blog really isn't the appropriate forum. As you may have seen in our announcement press release (http://www.spherion.com/press/releases/2006/career-blog.jsp), we intend to keep The Big Time focused on providing the best advice to those interested in changing jobs or advancing their careers. Will we look into a separate blog focused on the strategic and business side of the industry? Only time will tell. In the meantime, stay tuned to The Big Time...

Hi Roy,

I agree that the best advice is born from debate, so I look forward to discussing some career issues with you soon!

Hi Uncle Roy!
I was looking on Monster.com and I saw something about Spherion and eventually I ended up here at your blog! You have some good articles and links at your website...especially for me since I am sort of job hunting again (gave up the job in NJ) and am moving (in Dec.) to Minnesota and contemplating PhD (Aunt Kathy predicted it!) Just wanted to say hello...if you know of any Food Science jobs in the twin cities let me know ;)

Posted by your niece, Andrea on September 21, 2006 4:26 PM

Hi Andrea,

So nice to hear from you. I am glad you like our blog and web site -- we have received a lot of great feedback from candidates on the content that is available.

Good luck with your job hunt and upcoming move. Please forward your resume to our Minneapolis Professional Services office. They should be able to help you with your job search.

Let me know if you need any assistance. Talk to you soon.
